Man Charged In Shooting Death Of Monroe Man During Dispute Outside Variety

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a Monroe man outside a variety store.

Richard Brown, of Bridgeport, was charged Tuesday, Sept. 24, with manslaughter, carrying a gun without a permit, and criminal possession of a firearm, in connection with the Sunday, Sept. 1, death 41-year-old Jose Perez-Ortiz, said Bridgeport Police Lt. Christopher LaMaine.

Perez-Ortiz was shot during a dispute at the store on the corner of Noble Avenue and Shelton Street after he is seen on video surveillance allegedly attempting to stab another man.

"This arrest is the result of the outstanding work done by the lead detective, Martin Heneau, and the many others that assisted him, including our Fugitive Task Force detectives, Nick Grasso, and Adam Rosco," said LaMaine.

Brown is being held on $750,000 bond.
